Canada-> US Tariff Hold for Shipping
Key Points
- Tariffs into the US has been a hot topic with many last minute changes and exceptions. Until now I've mostly been able to avoid tariffs shipping from my shop into the US. Tariffs are applied by the country of import, and EU customers have always had to pay a tariff.
-
De Minimus (Section 321/Duty Free) Entry into U.S. is suspended as of Aug 29, 2025 . July 30th, a new Executive Order was published declaring the suspension of Duty-Free De Minimis treatment for all countries, as of midnight, Friday August 29, 2025. This means ALL regular personal mail shipments into the US from other countries will have a tariff on them. Barring any changes, this means the last crossing with Section 321 shipments will be Thursday, August 28.
- After that, Trump as indicated a 35% tariff will apply as well as any other fees the postal service may charge. As a small one-person business, I might be holding all orders for up to ONE MONTH after August 25th until I can see what is happening with shipments into the US. I can ship anytime if you're ok with paying the incoming tariffs and brokerage and mention so.
- I'm aware of CUSMA but there is no clear details on how paperwork may be provided and I'm a tiny one-woman business. I'll be looking into options once I know what the border situation looks like in a couple weeks.
- There are hopes that the tariff amount will be reduced, but currently USPS and Canada Post are not clear between each other about how Duties may be paid either from Sender or Recipient and packages are randomly being sent back.
- If you're able to pick up from a friend or mailbox in Canada, please consider things!
- Thank you for understanding while this happens, thank you for your support, and I really hope we'll be back to shipping drama-free!
