I've opened my small business selling dog gear right on the Sea to Sky corridor! Selling images and prints inspired by the surrounding mountains, I hope to share  the love of my dogs and my home with others. With free pickup/dropoff, shop local and shop small. 

My mountain dog prints are so special to me. The overlay is created from a photograph taken high up on the mountains of the Howe Sound, superimposed with my Vizsla Whiskey trotting. This print is available in the softest sweater, as well as a women's T-shirt. Mountain dog is also a magnet! 

For all dog lovers, there are stud earrings made of local wood, great for adventures! These are made locally and ready for pickup or drop off anytime!

Even if Garibaldi overlooking Squamish isn't dog friendly, I've made my Adventure Dogs T-shirt featuring the mountain that peaks through the clouds at me everyday. The unisex T-shirt fits super comfortably, soft and silkscreened locally.

Have you ever tried to knit a dog sweater? I have! Here's my attempt and the pattern I used ($2 USD). Even with all the time spent and money on yarn it wasn't perfect and stretched out with use. Eventually I went looking for the best knitted dog sweater and found only one that was still being made by hand, and of course fitted the best!

Something missing from most dog sweaters is a fit that goes fully around the belly and hugs the curves, especially to that of a dog with deep chest. Usually the stomach panel is a thin rectangle that allows the sweater to rotate as it's loose and doesn't keep the sweater upright. 

Ribbing keeps the dog sweater able to stretch yet spring back into shape with use. Every sweater I've seen mass-made for dogs do not use the extra yarn for large thick ribbing.  The only one is Bravehound. It's very expensive to knit, yet so beneficial for long-term wear. You can see the large ribbing going all the way up to the cableknit back. 

Here you can see a poorly fitted sweater, but what the heck, it's for Halloween! The back panel on the puppy is just a square that will flip over but she'll outgrow it in 2 weeks. However hand-knitted fits like a glove and hugs the curves like nothing else

Chest and arms that are not a mere hole in a rectangle shape are rare. You can see this sweater is formed from two rectangles with a hole for the arms. The stomach panel is stretching and loose in parts and the arms stretch the back and squeeze the top of the arms.

This sweater is shaped to a dog's form and accounts for a dog's chest shape. The arms are full circles (not slits) and are ribbed throughout to account for movement and stretch. It's not possible to lay the sweater down with the top showing like the plaid one as the Bravehound sweater is curved and shaped.

The sweaters are knitted by hand with warm wool yarns and made to last. You can machine wash them and they're available in several colors in sizes from XS to XL (German Shorthaired dogs from approx 35-75lbs). They're also great for Germain Wirehaired Pointers, Griffins and similarly shaped dogs.

Perfect for colder weather when short-haired dogs are shivering, wool keeps warm even when wet and damp. The ribbing stretches for running and active dogs, and the turtleneck has a hole perfect for leashing. These are extremely high-end sweaters that will last and last.

How can you tell between a dog sweater that is mass produced cheaper versus a high end handknit sweater? Is there even a difference? Check this out:

Cheap dog sweaters flop around at the back and don't hug the body. In the image above, look at the edging around the thighs, that red sweater corner will not stay on the dog and the sweater will easily flip back compared to the Bravehound sweater. Below, you can see how the black Halloween sweater back looks like a rectangle of fabric lays on the back instead of a form fitting knit.

Here below you can see the stomach panel isn't fitted and curved, it doesn't follow the line of the dog and doesn't keep the sweater in place with the grey sweater. The neckline is also much too wide.

The knit is thin and stretches out of shape easily, the yarn is low quality, feels like a cheap sweater and doesn't really keep the dog warm, especially if damp. I haven't found any other sweater outside of Bravehound that has a turtleneck that folds over. 

Lastly, put the sweaters in a wash over and over. Good well made ones will bounce back into shape and last for years and years. Cheaper ones will stretch or break.
